Former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and wife shot dead by 16-year-old son
The teenage son of former NFL player and Miami Dolphins linebacker has been charged with murdering his parents at their home in Houston, Texas.
The 16-year-old was charged as a juvenile andis being questioned by investigators in connection with the deaths of Antonio and Dawn Armstrong, NBC reports.
Armstrong, 42, who spent a season as a linebacker with the Miami Dolphins, and his wife Dawn were both shot in the early hours of Friday morning. Ms Armstrong died at the scene, while her husband was later pronounced dead at the city’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, having suffered a gunshot wound to his head
Three of the couple’s children were in the house at the time of the shooting, police said, including a 20-year-old son and a teenage daughter, neither of whom were hurt. The suspect called 911 at around 1.30am, shortly after the shooting occurred. His name has not been released because of age.
Police said they did not believe there was any history of domestic abuse in the family. Houston police homicide investigator Jimmy Dodson told KPRC that the Armstrongs were "an outstanding family" adding that Mr Armstrong was an associate pastor at a local church. "He's a great guy. The mother was apparently a great mother, according to family members," Mr Dodson said. "It was kind of the all-American family."
Mr Armstrong had been a college football star at Texas A&M University, and was named an All-American in his senior season as a linebacker for the A&M Aggies. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft but fractured an ankle in training and was released later that year, signing with the Dolphins, for whom he played four games.
A motivational speaker and fitness trainer, he and his wife owned a chain of three gyms called First Class Training in the Houston area. Former A&M head coach RC Slocum said in a statement:
"Antonio was a special young man. He was an all-American and an outstanding player, but he was an even better person. He was such a positive influence on his teammates. He always had a great big smile and a joy to coach"

Protest in Burundi after UN decides to send police
Around 1,000 people marched through the streets of Burundi’s capital Saturday to protest against a United Nations Security Council decision to send a police contingent to the violence-wracked country.
The demonstration — “organised by the authorities,” according to one Western diplomatic source — passed off peacefully but showed the government’s hostility to the proposed unit of 228 UN police.
Protesters marched to the French embassy, angry that France had drafted the UN resolution to send the controversial police squad.
One demonstrator carried a banner saying that it was France that needed UN peacekeepers, making a reference to a truck attack in the southern French city of Nice that killed 84 people.
French ambassador Gerrit van Rossum, who went out to address the crowd, said there was “a deep misunderstanding” about France’s role at the UN security council. He said there was “no problem” at the demonstration.
The crowd also demonstrated outside the Rwandan embassy, accusing Rwanda of training Burundi rebels.
On Friday, the UN agreed to send the force of 228 police to the capital Bujumbura and throughout Burundi for an initial period of a year.
The UN police force would be tasked with monitoring security and human rights in coordination with African Union rights observers and military experts.
Burundi has agreed to allow 100 AU rights observers and 100 AU military experts into the country to monitor the crisis, but fewer than 50 have begun work on the ground.
But the planned police deployment has sparked fury from the authorities, who have said they will accept no more than 50 officers.
Four countries on the 15-member UN council abstained from the vote, which passed with 11 votes in favour.
The abstentions came from China, Egypt, Angola and Venezuela, which cited the need to secure Bujumbura’s consent for the police force.
Burundi has been in turmoil since President Pierre Nkurunziza announced plans in April last year to run for a third term, which he went on to win.
More than 500 people have died, many of them in extrajudicial killings blamed on Burundian police, security forces and militias linked to the ruling party, according to the United Nations.
At least 270,000 people have fled the country.
India court convicts Bollywood director of rape
A Bollywood director was convicted Saturday of raping an American research scholar last year, India’s main news agency said.
Mahmood Farooqui, best known for co-directing the popular 2010 satire “Peepli Live” on farmer suicides, was found guilty of the attack last March by a fast-track court hearing the case in New Delhi, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The victim, then aged 35, had travelled to India to seek Farooqui’s assistance with her research when the attack took place at his home in an upscale area of the capital.
Additional Sessions Judge Sanjiv Jain will now decide on the sentence after hearing arguments on Tuesday, PTI said.
Farooqui, who was taken into custody as soon as the judge read the verdict, denies the allegations.
The woman returned to the US shortly after the incident but came back to report the matter to police.
“Peepli Live”, which explores the divide between urban and rural India, was produced by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
Farooqui co-directed it with his wife Anusha Rizwi, who had earlier dismissed the complaint against her husband as “manipulated and false”.
India introduced tough laws against sex offenders in the wake of the fatal gang-rape of a Delhi student in the capital in December 2012 that sparked mass street protests.
But high levels of sexual violence against women continue.

Restaurant owner is forced to eat cockroach found in customer's food
The restaurant owner |
After the customer found the supposed cockroach, he told the restaurant owner to either eat the cockroach or pay him 5,000 yuan (£569).The owner ate the cockroach instead. But the customer wasn't a man of his word, as he kept demanding money from the owner, adding that he needed to be compensated financially for the bad experience he had, but the owner refused to give in to the customer's demands.
According to the owner and other customers, the restaurant had been running for 11 years and had never encountered problems like this.
Some workers at the restaurant claimed that they thought they were being blackmailed by the customer. One worker even fought tears while she talked to reporters who came to interview them, saying she was upset that her boss had been forced to eat the insect.
After the incident, o n July 26, the Food and Drug Administration visited the restaurant for an inspection and discovered that the restaurant was using outdated equipment and did not have the necessary means to rid the establishment of flies or rats.
The FDA then ordered the restaurant to close for five days so that they could make the necessary changes.

Indian man who 'died' from snake bite wakes up seconds before cremation and dies again (Graphic photos)
A 23 year old Indian man simply identified as Sandeep, who was presumed dead after being bitten by a snake rose up from the dead at his own funeral, just as his body was about to be cremated.
Sandeep, was bitten by a snake while collecting wood from the forest far from his village. When he got back to his village in the Raisen district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, he told his family that he had been bitten by a snake.
Rather than take him to a hospital for treatment, his family took him to a traditional tantric practitioner in a nearby village, hoping that traditional medicine would cure him but the traditional cure didn't seem to have healed Sandeep, so they assumed he had died.
The family took his body to a local cemetery, where a funeral pyre was prepared. They placed his body and lit the fire, but by the time the fire almost reached his body, the young man started screaming, that was when people realised that he was still alive.
After he regained consciousness, his family took him to that same tantric practitioner who had previously declared him dead, instead of taking him to the hospital.
Again. the tantric couldn't save him and declared Sandeep dead for the second time.
He was then taken to the district hospital where he was confirmed dead and a post-mortem examination was done.

Brazilian drug lord serves his time in a 'VIP cell' that had a library, plasma TV, 3 rooms and an en-suite bathroom
A Brazilian drug lord serving an eight-year prison sentence, spent his time behind bars in a 'VIP cell' - complete with a plasma television, a kitchen, wardrobes, conference room, air conditioning, tiled walls, furniture, and library - complete with a DVD collection that included all episodes of a television show about Pablo Escobar.
Jarvis Chimenes Pavao, one of South America's deadliest and most feared drug lords was sentenced to 8 years in prison after being found guilty of money laundering charges and was locked up in Tacumb prison in Asuncion, Paraguay, where he lived a life of luxury. See more photos after the cut...
But Pavao's cushy life behind bars came to an end at his own doing, after officers began to suspect he was planning to detonate a bomb in order to smash through one of the jail walls and escape.
Investigators flooded the Brazilian's cell in search of the explosives on Tuesday night, but instead found his luxury prison pad.
After the raid, Pavao's lawyer said the lifestyle her client was able to lead while locked up was proof of how deeply corrupt the Paraguayan prison system had become.
'Six or seven justice ministers and six or seven prison directors' took bribes from Pavao, his lawyer alleged.
The lawyer also claimed her client paid for lodgings for prison directors, toilets for the guards, the renovation of the prison library and the cooks' salaries.
In the wake of the scandal, Justice Minister Carla Bacigalupo was sacked almost immediately.
